Setting Expectations

The target is simple, beat the TSX. If you have a better suggestion for comparison purposes, I would love to hear it from you. I am a full time employee so I will not be day trading the market every day, on the other hand I might flip a stock if an opportunity appears. I am not a professional sophisticated trader; I hope to grow into one. In essence, I represent a broad category of DIY investors that appeared following the turmoil of last year. Many people who saw their savings melt decided to take matters into their own hands. In my case, my losses were insignificant during that time because I did not have much in terms of RRSP investment, my excess cash flow was always directed towards my mortgage. What brought me towards the DIY crowd was my new found interest in personal finance, especially in stock market investments which I consider a pillar of any strategy.

Every month, I will post a portfolio snapshot for my 2 trading accounts: the TFSA and the non-registered. Every transaction will be posted and the portfolio updated if its holdings significantly change in less than a month. I will be posting my thoughts and my analysis of the market, take it all for what it’s worth having pointed out my investment experience. I will also post why I invested or I am considering investing in a particular stock.

In 2009, you could have picked almost any stock and it would have moved at least 100% by the end of the year. Going forward, it will no longer be that easy, it’s actually going to take some research. I am not into speculating, I am here to invest and grow my capital. Let the adventure begin!
